LU-MRRL Lecture Series: What Exactly is Business Education? and Decision Science for Everyday Choices

Tuesday, December 9, 2025 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM) (CST)

Description

Dr. Abdul Ajia, associate professor of business administration, will present two programs during this lecture.

"What Exactly is Business Education?" is a tour of the core disciplines of business education (marketing, business administration, finance, accounting, decision sciences, data analytics) and why these matter outside of the boardroom.

"Decision Science for Everyday Choices" is a no-jargon talk about how simple tools can make our everyday decisions faster and clearer. Participants will learn three basics: opportunity cost ("If I say yes to this, what am I saying no to?), break-even (when a flat fee really pays), and expected value (how to weigh risk and reward). These tools apply to everyday situations from phone plans and gym memberships to small "insurance" offers. Along with practical examples, Dr. Ajia will offer a quick audience exercise and a pocket checklist.
