KOMU 8 News is looking for a Promotions Producer to join its award-winning team.

KOMU 8 is a full-powered NBC and CW affiliate proudly owned by the University of Missouri serving the Columbia-Jefferson City, MO market. It is the only network affiliated television station with a dual mission of informing the public and serving as the premier training ground for television journalists with the prestigious Missouri School of Journalism.

KOMU 8 is an award-winning, nationally recognized news organization working to share impactful and important stories on all platforms. The station also supports community interests through various public service efforts throughout the year. The Promotions Producer will assist with public relations functions for KOMU 8. The individual will be in consistent communication with the newsroom to determine what information needs to be shared out on social media. In this role you will also engage with members of the local community by representing KOMU at fundraisers and other events. The Promotions Assistant should have strong skills in collaboration, organization, and communication.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conceptualization, development and implementation of promotion of KOMU 8 News topical special reports on traditional, digital and social media platforms.
  • Assist with daily marketing on all digital platforms including social media. Produce content on all platforms to motivate users to engage or watch programs on KOMU 8.
  • Engage and monitor visitors on station’s website and social media platforms. Monitor station and user posts and comments, engage visitors or answer questions about posted content. This position will encourage on-going dialog between the station and visitors to various digital platforms.
  • Assist with research and development of content on digital platforms. This content will be created internally or acquired from third parties. Make recommendations on emerging digital/social media platforms and technology to reach/engage new viewers/users.
  • Monitor and research analytics to maximize user engagement with various platforms.
  • Assist with revenue generating opportunities on various digital platforms. Collaborate with Sales Staff and clients to develop programs or promotions to help generate commercial advertising revenue.
  • Conceptualization, development and implementation of station branding and promotion on traditional, digital and social media platforms.
  • Research and development of promotion of KOMU 8 community service projects and partnerships on traditional, digital and social media platforms.
  • Promotional material placement using station’s traffic systems for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Buy/place outside media and coordinate co-op promotion/branding with network and syndicated partners.
  • Manage promotion/marketing internships - develop schedules, deadlines, and expectations of student interns.
  • Represent the station at station-sponsored functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Shift

10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., M-F, and working some evenings and weekends
 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a media related field, with prior experience in broadcast television.
  • Experience shooting and editing video.
  • Experience representing a business or brand with digital and social media.
  • Prior experience with digital/ social media account management.
  • Experience and understanding of analytics and ad management.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) skills.
  • Google Ad Certification and/ or experience with Google AdWord.
  • Basic CMS and HTML experience.
  • Knowledge of Adobe graphic and editing software.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.00 - $22.75 hourly

Grade: GGS-006
